It will be legal for restaurants to hang a sign saying ‘no gays allowed’ out front. On the other side, Ron Kimble, the city’s deputy city manager and second highest-ranking employee, urged city leaders and others to take a more conciliatory tone toward Raleigh.Kimble was an assistant city manager in Charlotte when Mc Crory was the city’s mayor. You have the power to help, I don’t.” Mc Crory did not respond. The records also show Roberts reached out to Mc Crory again on April 5, after Pay Pal officials announced the company was killing their Charlotte expansion. Watkins said that the Charlotte mayor and Mc Crory did not speak about HB2 until a week later. Her text said: “Wanted to let you know Pay Pal just announced they are pulling their relocation. That was on April 12, when Mc Crory issued an executive order designed to mitigate the fallout over HB2. Many who are concerned do not.” In that interview, Roberts said she was “appalled” by HB2, and that someone might see a sign in front of a business “that says no gays welcome here, and that will be perfectly legal.” But in the days after HB2 was passed, the city changed course."The new law perpetuates discrimination and it violates the values and principles that are at the core of Pay Pal's mission and culture," CEO Dan Schulman said Tuesday in a statement."As a result, Pay Pal will not move forward with our planned expansion into Charlotte." Pay Pal's decision adds to the fallout in North Carolina since the law was passed late last month.
